These are the early headlines and other items poised to influence the market at the start of the trading day. As we share this collection of market drivers, U.S. equity futures point to a positive market open later on Tuesday morning.
1. US stock index futures were little changed on Tuesday as crude oil hovered near its highest in six weeks, while investor attention turned to a slate of key corporate earnings and the Federal Reserve’s interest-rate decision this week. The Fed is widely expected to hold rates steady on Wednesday following an increase last month, though markets are pricing in at least two more hikes by mid-2027 as key inflation indicators remain elevated amid the ongoing US-Iran conflict. (Reuters)
Oil prices fell Tuesday as traders weighed fresh regional efforts to ease tensions involving Iran against Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and risks to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Iran, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkey agreed to continue talks on regional peace and security after senior officials met in Tehran on Monday, according to a joint statement issued after the meeting. (WSJ)
As the rash of earnings reports for Tuesday morning have been coming in, we’ve seen a turnaround in U.S. equity futures from flat to mixed to indicating a positive market open. Coming into the week, we shared our expectation that the market would trade day to day based on the latest developments and headlines, and so far, that is panning out. Ahead we have quarterly results from other hyperscalers and comments from Fed Chair Kevin Warsh on Wednesday afternoon that, in our view, are likely to skew more hawkish than what the current snapshot of the CME FedWatch Tool indicates. Those items will keep us from making any large scale moves with the Portfolio, but we continue to look for smaller, opportunistic bites.
2. Bank of America, Blackstone, Citi and Morgan Stanley will provide $63 billion in financing to buy Broadcom’s AI chips and networking gear for Anthropic, in one of the largest debt deals tied to the AI buildout. (Reuters)
Meta Platforms Inc. boosted a planned share sale to almost $98 billion, marking one of the largest equity offerings in history. The company, which is seeking funds to invest in AI infrastructure and personal superintelligence, sold $25 billion of common stock, more than initially planned, according to a statement late on Monday. It also raised $12.5 billion from an offering of preferred shares… Nvidia Corp., Advanced Micro Devices Inc. and Broadcom Inc. agreed to buy as much as $5 billion of the common shares in aggregate… (Bloomberg)
In our view, these capital raises including the reported $40 billion raised by SpaceX (SPCX) should help calm funding concerns that have weighed on AI infrastructure companies. However, we still have to contend with quarterly results from Microsoft (MSFT), Google (GOOGL) and Amazon (AMZN) and what those results reveal about capex spending and the impact to cash flow expectations. There is also the pending IPO from Anthropic. And since we mentioned the firms that helped with the Anthropic-Broadcom (AVGO) deal, we’ll also share that Morgan Stanley (MS) and Goldman Sachs (MS) Group are leading Meta’s (META) offerings. That includes Meta’s plan to raise as much as $60 billion via an at-the-market share sale program, which allows companies to periodically sell shares in the open market.
3. The Boeing Company recorded third quarter revenue of $24.2 billion, primarily reflecting higher defense and services volume and less favorable commercial delivery mix. The company reported GAAP loss per share of ($0.26) and core loss per share (non-GAAP)* of ($0.34). Operating cash flow in the quarter was $1.5 billion and free cash flow (non-GAAP) was $0.5 billion. Total company backlog at quarter end grew to a record $745 billion… Commercial Airplanes booked 300 net orders including orders from Turkish Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines and Lufthansa. Commercial Airplanes delivered 161 airplanes and backlog included over 6,300 airplanes valued at a record $612 billion. (Boeing)
During the reported Q3 2026, Boeing (BA) delivered 161 commercial aircraft, up modestly compared to the year-ago quarter. Our play with Boeing is ramping commercial aircraft production and deliveries in the coming quarters on top of the company’s more consistent Defense, Space & Security business that is backed by its $101 billion backlog exiting the quarter. When we listen to Boeing’s earnings conference call that begins mid-morning on Tuesday, our focus will be on production and delivery levels in the coming quarters given the recent FAA certification for the 737 MAX 10 and FAA certification for the 737 MAX 7 in August.
4. The healthcare real estate investment trust posted adjusted earnings of $1.67 per share for the third quarter, representing a 24.6% increase YoY… The company’s Seniors Housing Operating portfolio drove growth with same store net operating income increasing 21.0% YoY. Organic same store revenue growth in this segment rose 9.1% YoY, fueled by 320 basis points of average occupancy growth and 5.3% growth in revenue per occupied room… Welltower raised its full-year guidance. The company now expects net income attributable to common stockholders of $3.31 to $3.37 per share, up from its previous range of $3.11 to $3.19. The midpoint of $3.34 exceeds the analyst consensus of $2.88. Welltower also increased its normalized funds from operations guidance to $6.47 to $6.53 per share from $6.36 to $6.44 previously. (Investing)
We see that as solid quarterly results from Welltower (WELL) and the increase in guidance is something we’ll dig into during Tuesday’s earnings conference call being held later in the morning. One of the items we’ll be focusing on is management’s ongoing efforts to increase its exposure to Senior Housing, and that means determining the extent to which higher borrowing costs could impact gross investment volume in the coming quarters.
5. We also have quarterly results coming on Tuesday morning from heavy- and medium-duty truck company Paccar (PCAR). The market consensus calls for EPS of $1.60 on $7.5 billion in revenue, up almost 23% year over year. For the current quarter, the market forecast is for $1.75 in EPS on $7.8 billion in revenue. When Volvo AB (VLVLY) reported late last week, it delivered a 42% year-over-year increase in North American truck deliveries and shared that its production for 2026 is booked out and it is seeing strong demand for 2027 slots. Once we have Paccar’s earnings press release in hand, we’ll look for more color during its conference call at 12 p.m. ET (9:00 a.m. PT).
6. DoorDash is in advanced talks to acquire Instacart in a deal that could value the grocery-delivery platform at about $17 billion, a source familiar with the matter told Reuters on Monday… A deal may be finalized as soon as Wednesday… Instacart’s deal talks with Uber are no longer active… (Reuters)
Ares Capital Corp. said it agreed to buy private credit fund MidCap Financial Investment Corp. from Apollo Global Management Inc. in a cash-and-stock transaction with an enterprise value of $2.6 billion. (Bloomberg)
That deal follows Monday’s back-to-back announcements that EQT (EQT) will acquire Range Resources (RRC) and Surgery Partners (SGRY) will be picked up by HealthSpan Partners. To that activity, we can add the capital raises discussed above for Anthropic-Broadcom and Meta plus reports that Texas Instruments (TXN) priced $2 billion in debt to finance its acquisition of Silicon Labs (SLAB) and United Rentals (URI) priced a $2.5 billion debt deal overnight. This collective activity reinforces our view that investment banking activity outside of the IPO market continues and reaffirms our decision to add to the Portfolio’s position in Morgan Stanley (MS) shares on Monday.
