Coming off the start of the Fed’s rate-cutting cycle, we are going to put some additional capital to work in the shares of BAC and MS. While off their recent lows, the start of the lower interest rate environment and the Fed moving further down the interest rate curve in the coming quarters should be positive for their net interest incomes and investment banking activities. Their asset management businesses should also benefit as the move to lower rates brings incremental capital into other financial assets, including stocks, ETFs and mutual funds.
For now, we will keep our respective price targets of $120 for MS shares and $49 for BAC shares intact.
We recognize that we may be a tad early in making this move, but we also see this playing out over multiple quarters, not in days or weeks.
In terms of other holdings, we are reviewing price targets for some of our more interest rate-sensitive ones, including United Rentals URI and Builders FirstSource BLDR. The pronounced moves of several holdings have been very positive for the Portfolio, but in some cases, like BLDR and BROS shares, those moves have us revisiting our current ratings on those positions. We'll share more on this as our thoughts firm.
