Alto Ingredients (ALTO) is a firm that I have been thinking about initiating to the portfolio.
Alto Ingredients is a Pekin, Illinois based producer and distributor of specialty alcohols, renewable fuels and essential ingredients. The firm operates three distinct segments. Pekin Production includes the production and sale of alcohol and essential ingredients produced at three locations in Pekin. The Marketing & Distribution segment involves just that, marketing and distribution of the firm’s products on an aggregated basis. The Western Production segment covers the manufacture and sale of renewable fuels, primarily derived from corn and carbon dioxide to include liquid C02.
About a month ago, Alto released the firm’s financial results for the period ended March 31. Net sales contracted slightly to $224.7 million from $226.5 million. However, costs contracted more rapidly. The cost of goods sold dropped to $2155 million from $228.3 million as operating expenses dropped to $6.7 million from $7.2 million. The firm lost an adjusted $10 per fully diluted share (ALTO was GAAP profitable) and is projected to boast a GAAP and adjusted EPS of $0.09 for the current quarter. In fact, for the full year, ALTO is projected to post an adjusted EPS of $0.43 versus the year-ago comp of $0.01. The firm can boast positive cash flows and a robust current ratio.
Best of all, after those earnings were published on May 6, analyst Amit Dayal of Wainwright reiterated his “buy” rating on ALTO while increasing his target price to $10 from $5.50. Dayal is rated at nearly five stars out of five by TipRanks. Over the past two years, he has a 51% success rate with an average return of 30.4%.
