Small-Caps Break Out, Uranium Is Hot

There is some choppy action, but that isn't unusual in front of the Fed.

We have some rotational action in front of the Fed policy decision that hits this afternoon. The outperformance by small-caps and the Russell 2000 ETF  (IWM) is picking up steam while more interest-rate sensitive big-caps are struggling.

The IWM paused on Tuesday, but the buying picked up Wednesday morning, and there is now a clear breakout on the IWM chart above the highs it hit back in March. New highs aren't any big deal for the senior indexes, but the IWM has been building a base for most of the year, so the technical setup is very good.

Breadth is running slightly negative, and there is some choppy action, but that isn't unusual in front of the Fed.

Market players continue to look for themes. For example, uranium stocks are on the radar after China announces plans to build a number of nuclear power plants. I added Uranium Royalty Corp. (UROY) . Others in the group include Energy Fuels (UUUU) , Cameco Corp.  (CCJ) , Uranium Energy Corp. (UEC) , and Denison Mines Corp. (DNN) .

Cryptocurrencies are weaker today, but they are entitled to a rest. I like to play that group with the crypto miners and will be looking to add to positions in Hut 8 Mining (HUT) , Cippher Mining (CIFR) , Bitfarms Ltd. (BITF) , Power & Digital Infrastructure Acquisition Corp. XPDI , and others as they find support and develop.

We should see some drifting action as we await the Fed, but then I'll be looking for the typical whipsaws once the Fed news hits the wires.

At the time of publication, Rev Shark was long UROY, HUT, CIFR, BITF and XPDI.
