The waiting game continues. After the gap down to start the day the market is bouncing around randomly as we await further fiscal-cliff news. The meeting with the President isn't until 3 p.m. EST, so big headlines aren't likely until late in the day.
Breadth has been improving steadily, which is probably a function of traders growing bored with this action. I'm seeing a little speculative action in solar stocks and some small oils but it is very limited. There just aren't any good reasons to build positions with the great likelihood of being jerked around by headlines later in the day.
I have a few little trades going but nothing very big. Taser (TASR) is one I've liked as an alternative gun play. That chart has developed nicely and it is pushing back toward the $9 level on good volume. Halcon Resources (HK), a small oil play I've mentioned previously, is bouncing and I'm inclined to look for an add point there. In the solar group, I took a position in JA Solar (JASO) but I'm also watching a few others. Stillwater Mining (SWC) is a mining play on platinum and I have a technical buy on that as it moves through $12.50.
I have a lot of cash on hand and would love to trade more aggressively, but until the politicians move out of the way it is going to be tough to do.
At the time of publication, Rev Shark was long TASR, HK, JASO and SWC, although positions may change at any time.
