Does tragedy change anything? Will there be a move in Washington to restore defense spending? Will this matter? Will there be a different spirit that can make a grand bargain occur?
Those are second-day thoughts after we figure out this tragedy, but they are thoughts that have to be considered tomorrow.
Not today.
Today was just a day of confusion and terror and I feel for all of those who lost someone or were injured in Boston. I felt it as I knew my daughter was up watching the marathon and it's something when you see those three dots on an iPhone after you send that panicked message.
Some didn't get the three dots back and I hope for the best for you.
Before the bombs went off, it was a hideous day filled with breathtaking moves that made you wonder what could possibly cause gold to plummet other than some amazingly deflationary event or a giant fund that is no more.
But the idea that it should set off all sorts of other declines was almost too pat. The funds that borrow tend to own more than just one commodity and that's a better explanation for the selloff.
Still, we find out more tomorrow, no reason for ill-informed speculation today ... about any of the day's events.
